Chelsea make the trip to Newcastle United for this afternoon’s Premier League meeting versus Newcastle United. The Blues have endured a tough run on Tyneside with just one point attained over the past six years but they have the opportunity to shed this record under Maurizio Sarri.
Kepa Arrizabalaga looked nervous during the cross-town derby versus Arsenal last weekend and he should have done much better with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s effort at the near post. He should still make the starting lineup being the undisputed number one.
In defence, no changes are likely from the previous week. Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso should slot into the full-back positions with the pairing of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger making up the heart of the backline.
In midfield, Sarri should likewise stick with the winning combination with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Barkley making the lineup. Mateo Kovacic did impress with his cameo versus the Gunners but Sarri has stressed that he is ready to feature from the off.
Further forward, we are anticipating a first start of the season for Eden Hazard after a couple of cameo roles from the bench. The Belgian has contributed an assist in both of those matches and he should now command a starting role on the left side of the attack.
Aside from the Belgian, Sarri may go with Alvaro Morata and Pedro in the frontline. The Spanish duo found the scoresheet during the recent triumph over Arsenal and they should slot into the centre-forward and right-wing positions respectively.
