Chelsea are reportedly close to securing the signature of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid. The Croatia international is expected to join the Blues on a season-long loan as part of an agreement which should witness Thibaut Courtois’ permanent exit from the club.
According to BBC Sport, the Blues have decided to part ways with Courtois this summer following weeks of speculation regarding his future. The Belgium international has been yearning to return to Madrid to be close with his children and the Blues have granted him the wish after agreeing upon a club-record fee to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao.
Meanwhile, a report on Tuesday suggested that the Blues were close to acquiring the services of Kovacic on a season-long loan and it has now been revealed that deal has been influenced by the club agreeing to sell Courtois to the European champions.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri recently highlighted the need for a midfielder with ‘different characteristics’ and Kovacic most certainly fits the Italian’s requirements with his impressive workrate on the both side of his game.
