Chelsea appear close to acquiring the services of Jorginho, who has travelled to London to finalise the necessary formalities over the transfer. The Italy international was earlier tipped to join league rivals Manchester City but he has had a change of mind with his preference to work in the English capital.
According to Sky Sports News, the Blues have finalised an initial £50m fee for the midfielder with a remaining £7m sum to be settled in the form of add-ons. It is added that the Italian has made his mind up to join the Blues regardless of whether Maurizio Sarri is appointed as their next head coach or not.
Jorginho’s potential arrival at Stamford Bridge may coincide with the departure of one of the existing players and based on recent reports, Danny Drinkwater appears the most likely to part ways with the club.
The Englishman was restricted to just five Premier League starts during a difficult debut season with the Blues and he is said to fancy a fresh challenge to improve his prospects of earning a recall with the national team.
Meanwhile, the Blues have most-recently confirmed the departure of Antonio Conte from the managerial post and they are now close to appointing Sarri as their next head coach, so long as there are no late complications.
