Chelsea are reportedly seeking to lure midfielder Jorginho from Napoli during their ongoing negotiations for manager Maurizio Sarri. The Italian was dismissed from his head coach role with Napoli right after the conclusion of the previous campaign but the club have refused to release him unless a compromise in terms of a compensation package could be reached.
As such, the discussions have prolonged without any conclusion but Corriere dello Sport via Calciomercato claims that the Blues could make an approach for reported Manchester City target Jorginho – to sweeten the deal. To date, City have failed to meet Napoli’s €60m asking price and the Blues could make a late attempt to hijack the move to enhance their prospects of signing Sarri.
Meanwhile, the west London giants have begun pre-season training without the involvement of current boss Antonio Conte and this appears to give a clear indication that the 48-year-old should end his association with the club in the coming days.
Conte presently has 12 months left on his existing deal with the FA Cup holders but the Blues are expected to pay off for the remainder of his contract. The release is likely to cost the Blues a package of around £8m this summer.
