Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reported to be planning a surprise approach to sign goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. The Belgium international has recently witnessed contract negotiations stall with Chelsea and this could potentially lead to his exit during the summer.
According to Don Balon, the Blues are likely to consider the shot-stopper’s sale with just a year left on his existing deal. The report adds that Courtois would ideally prefer to join Real Madrid this summer, though the Reds could lodge a surprise attempt to secure his services.
Liverpool have already made their mark for the summer with the signing of Fabinho from AS Monaco and it is now suggested that Klopp could lodge a significant bid to tempt Chelsea into selling Courtois.
The Merseyside outfit have had concerns in the goalkeeping department with both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet making notable blunders and a new keeper remains a priority ahead of next term.
AS Roma’s Alisson and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak have been linked with the Reds in recent weeks, but ideally Courtois’ top-flight experience makes him the perfect fit, if a deal can be finalised with the Blues.
