Chelsea set to announce their next manager and it’s not Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of announcing Laurent Blanc as their next head coach. The Frenchman is likely to replace Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge once the Blues finalise a compensation package with the Italian.

According to The Sun, the former Paris Saint-Germain boss is the clear favourite for the managerial post with Zinedine Zidane discussing the prospect of managing Qatar until the 2022 World Cup in the Middle-East nation.

Zidane is understood to be negotiating a staggering £44m package for the job and this has supposedly ending any interest from the Blues. Blanc has been out of work since his departure from Les Parisiens a couple of seasons ago but he now appears as the outright favourite ahead of Maurizio Sarri.

Chelsea have been reluctant to compensate for Sarri’s release from the Naples outfit and they now seem to have ended their interest after knowing of the Italian’s homophobic comments which triggered a fine and a touchline ban in 2016.

Blanc tended to adapt an attacking philosophy during his time at Parc des Princes and the Blues players could be rest assured of a similar approach once he takes over the reigns at Stamford Bridge. The Frenchman’s arrival could produce a formation change from the regular three-man central defence.
