FA Cup holders Chelsea have reportedly received a boost in the pursuit of experienced Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international has netted 151 goals during his four seasons with the Bavarian outfit but he is now understood to be eyeing a new challenge in a different league.
According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, the 29-year-old could make the switch to the Premier League this summer with both Chelsea and Manchester United deemed to be interested. Bayern have for long stressed that Lewandowski won’t be leaving with his contract only expiring in the summer of 2021 but Solhekol believes super-agent Pini Zahavi could influence the marksman’s exit.
Zahavi made the near-impossible happen after Neymar completed a world-record £198m move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona last summer and there is a suggestion that he could make it work once more for Lewandowski, who has been left disappointed with the absence of big-name signings at Bayern.
As things stand, Chelsea are more focused on resolving their managerial situation but they are expected to make a new striker signing during the summer transfer window. Alvaro Morata was pretty average during his maiden season with the Blues and either him or Michy Batshuayi could make way for a new recruit.
