Not Fred, Manchester United want Champions League winner to compete with Lukaku

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Juventus and Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic as they seek to find a suitable competitor to Romelu Lukaku upfront.

The Red Devils struggled to find the scoresheet in the backend of the campaign where Lukaku was sidelined with an ankle problem and Mourinho appears keen on resolving this issues during the summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Jose Mourinho is keen on adding more physical presence in the forward department and Mandzukic, a former Champions League winner with Bayern Munich, has been underlined as a possible transfer option.

Mandzukic has been associated with a probable exit from Turin this summer with the Bianconeri eyeing Alvaro Morata as a suitable replacement and the 32-year-old could be available on a cut-price deal.

As per Di Marzio, United are also understood to have a backup option in hand in the form of West Ham United’s Marco Arnautovic, who has been a consistent Premier League performer in recent years.
