Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly pushing forward with the club’s plans to reinforce the midfield during the summer. The Blues are expected to part ways with Antonio Conte next month but this is unlikely to hamper their plans for the transfer window.
According to The Mirror, the west London giants have placed their emphasis on bolstering their midfield and Nice’s Jean-Michel Seri has emerged as the prime candidate to fulfil their requirement.
The Blues have lacked the presence of a tenacious midfielder in their ranks alongside N’Golo Kante and Seri would ideally suit their formation with his added ability to contribute in the form of goals and assists.
The Ivorian is currently valued at around £30m which is slightly less from his release clause and the Blues could face competition from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for his signature this summer.
Chelsea had recruited Tiemoue Bakayoko from AS Monaco last year in order to overcome the absence of Nemanja Matic but the Frenchman has yet to convince with his performances in the top-flight.
