Manchester United have reportedly checked-in at the Lowry Hotel ahead of their Premier League outing versus Chelsea this afternoon. Jose Mourinho already confirmed that six players including Ander Herrera will miss the Blues game, and it appears that there is another surprise with Sergio Romero not making the provisional squad.
Romero has solely featured in the Cup competitions this term, and his absence may not have any effect on the squad, considering the club have a highly-rated Joel Pereira to play deputy to David de Gea, if required.
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Joel Pereira, Kieran O’Hara
Defenders: Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw
Midfielders: Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard
Forwards: Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial
With Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo sidelined, Mourinho is said to have thoughts of playing a three-man backline against the Blues, and this could potentially see Eric Bailly partner Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof at the heart of the backline.
Should this be the case, it will be interesting to see whether Pogba is handed a start in midfield, considering the manager has spoken fondly about Scott McTominay, who may well feature alongside Nemanja Matic in the centre of the park.
