Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is expected to be without four key first-team players for this afternoon’s Premier League kick-off at the Falmer Stadium. The Blues sealed a rather unconvincing 2-0 win over Brighton last time around, and they face a tricky prospect on the road with a couple of injury and suspension concerns.
Both Pedro and Alvaro Morata are suspended for the league outing after they were sent off for two yellow cards during the FA Cup third round replay over Norwich City, and it is now confirmed that both Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas are also sidelined for the encounter.
The duo were deemed to be carrying minor injuries for which they were subbed during the goalless draw versus Leicester City last weekend, and Conte has now confirmed that they are ‘out’ for the early kick-off, though he will be hopeful that they return in time for the League Cup semi-final second leg versus Arsenal.
Chelsea have yet to win any of their Premier League games in 2018, and Conte will want a better performance overall, though he may have to contend with a different outlook on the playing field, considering a few regulars won’t make the matchday squad.
The Premier League holders are currently fourth in the standings with 47 points, just three ahead of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are likely to be their main contenders for the final Champions League spot.
